As you are well aware, the Government reduced fuel duty by 32cpl on diesel and 27cpl on petrol (inc VAT)  back in April 2026. This was always a temporary measure and everyone assumed the Iran conflict would end by the summer months and relative ‘normality’ would come into place.

That is clearly not the case as the war continues and oil prices have climbed steadily over the last month. The restoration of duty is proposed to start from midnight on 31st August 2026 with an increase of 10cpl of diesel and 9cpl on petrol (including VAT).

There are calls today to have the Dáil recalled from summer recess to address the issue and we have written again to Minister Simon Harris HERE asking for the temporary reduction to be further extended.

If the Dáil is not recalled and the increase goes ahead, we would remind members to get their orders in early (pre 31st) as no doubt there will be a log jam of orders and to keep stocks high next week ahead of the proposed increase.

If the situation changes, we will of course notify Members immediately.
